All homebrewers residing in the state of Utah age 21 and older who enter a qualifying Beehive State Circuit competition are eligible for Beehive State Circuit points. Anyone outside of Utah is ineligible to receive points or awards.
A Utah homebrew club must be selected in order to know whether or not you are a Utah brewer. If no club is selected and points are not awarded, you have two weeks from the time results are posted to contact the Beehive State Circuit organizers to make changes.
Homebrewing teams, including entries with co-brewers, will be treated as a single entity. The registered name(s) will be awarded points, co-brewers will not be awarded points.
Only entries judged against BJCP guidelines will be awarded points. No people choice or celebrity judging.
If a competition chooses to combine BJCP categories, points will only be given to the winners of the combined categories.
Points will be awarded based on medals awarded in each competition utilizing the Award Points Schedule. The board chose Simple321 over a Cubed calculation because the Simple321 is easier to understand.
In all cases, "Gold" and "1st Place" are synonymous, "Silver" and "2nd Place" are synonymous, and "Bronze" and "3rd Place" are synonymous. No points are accrued for any other medal places or for Honorable Mention (HM).
Points will be awarded as follows for table awards:
1st - 3 points, 2nd - 2 points, 3rd - 1 point.
Points will be awarded as follows for BOS awards:
1st - 7 points, 2nd - 5 points, 3rd - 3 points.
Points will not be awarded to individuals that are entering from out of state.
After the results are posted to the competition website, there will be a 2 week window for entrants to contact the Competition Coordinator about errors in the results. The Competition Coordinator will make the call on whether or not the results will be updated and will notify the Circuit Coordinator.
In the event of a tie at the end of the circuit, the brewer with the least amount of winning entries will take the better rank. If winning entries are tied, whoever has the most golds, then silvers will take the better rank. For ties with only one medal won, tie breaking will be based on table entries. Higher number of table entries will give the better rank in the circuit.
At the end of the calendar year, the three individuals with the most accumulated points from circuit competitions will be awarded medals. If possible, awards can be picked up at the last competition’s Awards Ceremony.
The first annual Beehive State Circuit is a wrap. Congratulations to Mike for being Utah’s best homebrewer and taking home a Grainfather GF30 Conical Fermenter, Jake for coming in second and taking home a 50lb bag of Pilsner malt and JJ for being bumped up to third for award purposes and taking home a pound of Cryo Citra hops. Also, congratulations to everyone else who won a medal in any of this year’s competitions. Just being on this list is no easy feat. Thank you to our sponsors BSG HandCraft, Solstice Malt and SaltyDog Trading Company for donating prizes for the top three Utah Homebrewers. We will see you all again next year!
